The Storyteller Behind the Plate: Chef Anuj Wadhawan
For Chef Anuj Wadhawan, food has always served as a way to connect to one another. You know him as the chef who has prepared meals for Presidents, Sir Richard Branson and the First Lady of India and as the person behind some of New Delhi's most popular dining establishments. However, when asked what his favourite dish is, he will tell you that it is not a Michelin-starred creation, but rather the comfort food his mother made for him at home.
That balance between high-end precision and pure, nostalgic comfort is what defines his career.
From London to New Delhi Chef Anuj didn't just stumble into success; he earned it in some of the toughest kitchens in the world. He cut his teeth at the historic Strand Palace Hotel in London before returning to India to help shape the legacy of Olive Bar and Kitchen. His journey took him across borders, playing a key role in launching Trèsind Dubai and working at Singapore’s Restaurant André, a two-Michelin-star legend ranked among the world’s top 50.
His passion was always to bring the highest level of standards he had gained experience worldwide, back to India. As Executive Chef of Roseate House, he created some of New Delhi’s most memorable dining experiences: DEL, Kheer, Chidya Ghar, and Roasted. While partnering with chef legends such as Heston Blumenthal and creating truffle festivals in partnership with the French Embassy, Anuj consistently expanded the definition of Indian dining.
More Than Just a Chef Today, Anuj is doing what he loves most—building new stories. Through his venture, A Food Story, he has moved beyond the kitchen line to become a mentor and consultant for the next generation of restaurateurs. He helps brands find their voice, designing menus and concepts that don’t just feed people, but leave a lasting memory.
Chef Anuj Wadhawan is both a traditionalist and a contemporary chef. He respects the traditional methods of cooking while creating his own interpretations of these methods. When he talks about how he develops a new restaurant concept or how to make the most amazing bowl of dal, his passion, creativity, and soul shine through.
